Put The Heat On! 2010 Campaign Launch Christmas Day On Pine Ridge PUT THE HEAT ON! Winter Aid Relief Effort - Following a record breaking blizzard last year that knocked out power and created expotential life threatening situations on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, The Native American Music Association launched a Call To Action and created a Winter Aid Relief Program, entitled, Put The Heat On!. The Program raised over $15,000 in funds and directly purchased emergency propane and electric heat for families who had no heat. This past December 22, 2009, the Governor of South Dakota ordered the state Emergency Operations Center opened because of a major winter storm that pounded South Dakota. On December 29, 2009, Oglala Sioux Tribe President Theresa Two Bulls declared a State of Emergency for the Pine Ridge Indian Agency Reservation due to severe winter weather. A Christmas Day snow storm dumped 36 inches of snow on the reservation, and along with high winds caused blizzard conditions throughout the reservation. Roads leading up residences were blocked, children were prevented from getting to school and families from getting to stores to purchase food, fuel and other necessities. Sick or disabled residents, cannot get to the Indian Health Service Hospital or clinics to receive medical care. This year, the Association has been asked to help over one dozen families with elders and young children in need of emergency heat. It is severely cold on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Winter is harsh, and there are families trying to survive the Winter with NO HEAT in their sub-standard trailer-like home. 100% of all donated funds are tax deductible and go directly to the cause.
