Here's a couple of things going on this week that I'll be playing at and hosting! I'll send out a newsletter next week with a Farmgirl Journal story about springtime -
and some additional concerts for this April... promise!
The Farm Couple hosts their monthly
Hootenanny at The Hideaway Pizza Place, April 2nd in Stillwater, OK
This Friday (April 2nd) at 7pm, Monica Taylor & Patrick Williams will host their monthly Hootenanny at The Hideaway with great old country, bluegrass, western-swing, and their own original tunes. The supper-concert is held in The Daily Grind Coffeehouse part of the 53 year old pizza place. At 8:30 pm they push back the tables and make a big circle where they host an open jam session for any pickers! So bring your instruments to the show, bring your hunger for pizza and a good friday night social!
The Hideaway Pizza Place (University & Knoblock) is one of Stillwater's most popular places for visitors. SO many parents and grandparents bring their kids back to town to walk the OSU campus or come to a game... and they always have Hideaway pizza on their list of things to do. Usually, it's the very first place visitors hit when they get to town!
Two more Hootenanny's: April 2nd & April 30
"We've enjoyed playing for the Stillwater folks- and people who come from other parts of Payne county- at our monthly Hootenanny's the last 2 or 3 years," says Monica. 'Hootenanny' is the word used by folks back in the 40's thru the 60's for a gathering of folks- usually country folks- to play the old bluegrass, country, folk ballads and such together. Everyone singing along or just tapping a toe. As usual these two songwriters are going to have to take the summer off because they each travel out of Oklahoma to play during these months. So they are doing two more shows- BOTH in April- and hope to see all ya'll out for these...
"We'll miss your smilin' faces over the summer, but we'll start 'er back up again in the fall! Thank you very much for coming out each month! We hope to see you this friday and then again on friday, April 30th!" smiles Monica.
Cimarron Valley Barn Concert
this Saturday, April 3rd at 7:30pm with Audrey Auld!
Gathering for potluck at 7pm.
Audrey Auld is one of Nashville's best new songwriters. She moved up to Tennessee a couple of years ago from Tazmania, Australia... where the 'dirt is red' she proudly says... she's a Red Dirt girl, too. She has become known to many Oklahomans for her wonderful concerts at the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival the last couple of years.
She writes about the same kind of life we live here in Oklahoma- rural, family, downhome, love, dirt roads with that 'real' country rasp in her voice. She also writes about the ocean and her homeland so vividly, you feel like you are there.
It's all from her heart- she is a country girl writing and singing songs with the lovely folk roots sound that will make you think about The Carter Family in one moment and then of the old Nicolette Larson & Emmylou Harris roots folk sounds in the next. Monica will be joining her on a couple of songs, too. Terry "Buffalo" Ware will be joing her for the evening on guitar. Terry has been one of Oklahoma's best and sought after guitarists for four decades. He's played with Ray Wylie Hubbard, Jimmy Lafave, Michael Fricasso, The Cowboy Twinkies, The Shambles, The Red Dirt Rangers... he is the band leader for the annual Woody Guthrie Folk Festival house band every year. This means that Terry has played with everyone from Joe Ely to Arlo Guthrie to Susan Gibson, too. "I am so excited about having these two artists and friends in my home for a concert! There's nothing like sitting in your living room and listening to people who are known all over the country- and in both these people's cases, other continents!" Monica says happily.

Her Perkins, OK home is just a half a mile north of The Sonic Drive In on Highway 33, on the right in a two story silver barnhouse in the pecan trees. The address is 11007 S. Jardot, Perkins (OK) Suggested donations for the concert are $10-15 a person AND it's a potluck... so bring a dish, if you'd like! We gather and eat about 7pm and the concert will begin about 7:30pm.
