Norman entertainment briefs


Event focuses on songwriters
NormanMusicScene.com's monthly Singer/Songwriter Showcase will feature Daddy Love, Tracy Feldman, Robert Bartlett and Randy Hall.

The event will begin at 8 p.m. Friday at Borders Books Music and Cafe, 300 Norman Center Court.

The showcase will feature a variety of music, including fiddle, folk and rock.

Theater plans camp auditions
The Sooner Theatre, 101 E Main St., will hold auditions for its Camp Broadway and Young Producers summer camps March 24-26 at the theater.

Camp Broadway, for children ages 8 to 13, will present the musical "Li'l Abner.” The Young Producers, for ages 13 to 18, will produce the musical "Damn Yankees.”

Camp Broadway will accept 50 children and will feature guest clinicians and performers who will speak about auditioning, stage makeup and costuming. Camp begins June 4 and will meet Monday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. Performance dates are June 28-30.

The Young Producers will gain insight and hands-on experience into what it takes to produce, direct and market a live show. Camp begins July 9 and will meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Performance dates are Aug. 2-4.

Those auditioning should come prepared to sing 32 measures of a standard Broadway song. An accompanist will be provided. Students may bring a background track without vocals. Dowling exhibit to start
"My Neighborhood,” a collection of artwork by Ginna Dowling, will be on display at the Firehouse Art Center, 444 S Flood Ave. Friday through April 14.

An opening reception is planned from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Firehouse.
