New CD puts Caroline's Spine back on the road for light touring

While green may be the color for St

Patrick's Day, you won't catch Caroline's Spine envying their younger years on Hollywood Records.

After its album's release last January, the band will play its first Tulsa area show Saturday in the parking lot of Broken Arrow's C.J. Moloney's.

Drummer Jason Gilardi said the band has been seeing some new faces at its gigs, something he attributes to "Captured," the band's first album since 2002's "Overlooked."

Joining them Saturday will be acts including Jenny Labow, who is armed with a new CD, and Crooked X, fresh off the teenage metal band's loss in the "The Early Show"'s "Living Room . . . Live! Kids" video contest.

The band has been playing a few shows on weekends, including a show in Flint, Mich., on Superbowl weekend when it was 19 degrees below zero outside, Gilardi said.

"We used to do nothing but touring. So now, with everyone having families and mortgages and kids and dogs and stuff like that, we're pretty much doing Thursday, Friday, Saturdays, which is great for us," said Gilardi, who by day teaches at Drum World.

The band took a break following 2002's "Overlooked," when 10 years of touring had worn the band down. Spartan tour support from Hollywood Records had the band sleeping
on fans' floors and in bad motels, despite the band's four top-20 hits.

But playing shows following "Captured's" release has been a lot of fun and given the band a chance to see some friends as well as make a little money.

"We're all still brothers," Gilardi said. "We went through so much together that we always will be brothers. And literally in the sense of brothers, we can have our little fights but in the end still have our respect."
