"American Idol" gave Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson superstardom, and, of course, Sanjaya Malakar nationwide infamy. Now the No. 1 show in America is looking to give an aspiring songwriter a shot at penning the next Idol's first hit single.
"We're listening for a song with a powerful melodic and emotional hook that will connect with the American public young and old -- a song that can make people sing, dance or even cry," according to the Idol Web site. "Above all, it must be memorable and feel like a fitting end to this series of 'American Idol.' "
No pressure, folks.
To enter one orginal song and its lyrics into the songwriting contest, go online to http://songwriter.americanidol.com/ . The entry fee is $10. Entry deadline is April 17.
