Band Q&A: Revolution Pariah

oklahoman.com

•Why: Revolution Pariah (D on drums, Clint on vocals, Chunkz on bass and Trey and Zo on guitars) are serious about their metal, and their energy and intensity will make those who are moshpit-inclined want to get in the thick of things and shake things up.

•When: 8 p.m. Saturday.

•Where: The Conservatory, 8911 N Western.

Q:How did Revolution Pariah come together and what's the story behind your name?

A:Zo, guitar: The idea for a band started when D and I decided to try and start a band after years of being friends. At the time this was decided, D was studying abroad in France. When she got back, we began jamming and looking for people. When it came time decide on a band name, we began searching dictionaries and thesauruses to try to find a new word that not many people would know the meaning, but embodied who we are and the message we wanted to convey. That's when we came across "pariah,” which is a person who has been cast out of his or her society and/or home. But "pariah” was just not enough — there was something missing. Someone said, "What about Revolution Pariah?” and it was immediately unanimous.

Q:What is the typical writing process for your band?

A:Zo: When it comes to writing, everyone contributes equally: whether that person knows how to play another instrument or not, we are always bouncing ideas for a song off one another. Five heads are better than one, and we always ask ourselves, "If I was listening to this song, what would I want to hear next?”

Q:You have a newer song on your MySpace page. Are you looking to release some new music in the near future?

A:Zo: We actually just got back from the studio recording our five-track EP, "Miles from the Gates.” Right now, we are just waiting for the tracks to get mastered, and we will be ready to release it really soon.

Q:

What can someone who comes to see Revolution Pariah for the first time expect? Should they be sure they have their living will in order before they decide to come out?

A:Zo: A lot of energy. One of our lyrics in our song "Lost Inside” states "Pariah for life, I bleed tonight,” and a lot of our fans have taken that in a literal sense. I'd say probably 95 percent of the time, someone ends up bloodied and/or bruised after our show. That's not to say you can't just go to a show and sit back and enjoy the show from a distance.
