Pawhuska hosts 28th annual Biker Days in the Osage

It’s been called one of the best old-school biker rallies in the nation, and it’s back in Pawhuska for another year.

It’s the 28th annual Biker Days in the Osage, and its highlight will be “the best biker rock band in the country,” as biker journalist Dyna Mike Bennett calls it —the Curtis Moore Band.

Three days of revelry in Harley-Davidson culture starts at high noon on Friday, and runs “pretty much non-stop” through Sunday, said Moore, aka the “Rowdy Redneck Rocker,” who’s also the event spokesman.

The event also will have food, beer, vendors selling everything from leather gear to jewelry, and contests including “silly, fun stuff,” such as a bowling-ball throwing contest and wet T-shirt contest for the ladies (yeah, it’s that kind of party— Moore’s requested that any person under age 18 be accompanied by a parent).

Admission is $20 for both days at the Biker Park-based event, located at the junction of highways 60 and 99 in Pawhuska. It is put on by the Osage County Independent Biker Association, he said.

Moore will perform his Southern-fried blues rock at 9:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with a special guest and friend on Saturday: Billy Earheart, a Grammy award winner and 23- year member of Hank William Jr.’s Bama Band.

Earheart also played with the Amazing Rhythm Aces, and is a multi-faceted keyboardist, with influences ranging from soul to blues to country, according to his Web site.

He is known to have hung out with legendary gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson, and has played with a roster of who’s who in the music industry, such as Al Green, B.B. King, Kid Rock, Dickie Betts, Kris Kristofferson, Sammy Hagar, Jimmy Buffet, Glen Frey and more, Moore said.

Also scheduled to perform is 2007 Spot Music Award nominee Scott Ellison from 6-9 p.m. Friday. Saturday, the Beau Brimley band plays from noon-4 p.m., and Blues Dogs will perform from 6-8:45 p.m., said Moore.

Also playing both nights with Moore will be Rick Heck, who was briefly a member of John Lee Hooker’s band, and Brian “Cowboy” Hines, he said.

“And my girlfriend, Rebel, she’s in charge of merch, so stop in and say ‘Hi,’ ” he said. With a name like that, we’d be afraid not to.
