A Stillwater businessman remained in critical condition Saturday night at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Robert Darrell Cox, 51, of Perkins sustained head, arm, leg, internal and external injuries Thursday when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car on state Highway 51.

Cox is co-owner of Cartunes, 1302 E. Sixth Ave., in Stillwater.

Cox was driving his motorcycle east on state Highway 51 on Thursday evening about a half mile east of Stillwater when he failed to stop behind a car that was waiting to turn left, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report stated. According to the report, Cox was not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the car, Jennifer Lynn Stark, 19, of Stillwater was treated and released from Stillwater Medical Center.

A Stillwater businessman was in critical condition at an Oklahoma City area hospital Friday morning after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car Thursday night on State Highway 51.

Just after 6 p.m., Robert Darrell Cox, 51, of Perkins, was airlifted to the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was admitted in serious condition with head, arm, leg, internal and external injuries. Cox is a co-owner of Cartunes, 1302 E. Sixth Ave., in Stillwater.

A hospital spokesman said Cox was in critical condition this morning.

Cox’s business partner, Lance Munson, went to the hospital Thursday night and stayed until 2:30 a.m. Munson said Cox had surgery this morning to repair a compound fracture of his leg. Cox has had a number of blood transfusions, and doctors were still trying to stop his leg from bleeding this morning, Munson said.

“It’s kind of touch and go right now,” Munson said shortly before 10 a.m. today.

Munson said Cox’s body was damaged “almost everywhere.” Cox had skull fractures, a blood clot in his stomach, a broken arm and more, Munson said.

Cox was driving his motorcycle eastbound Thursday on State Highway 51 about a half mile east of Stillwater when he failed to stop behind a car that was waiting to turn left, according to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the OHP report.

Jennifer Lynn Stark, 19, of Stillwater, was driving the car. She was treated for internal trunk injuries at the Stillwater Medical Center and later released.

Munson said Cox’s room was packed with a team of about 15 medical staff who were trying to stabilize him this morning.

He said Cox’s family would appreciate everybody’s prayers and best wishes.

Anyone who is willing to donate blood would also be appreciated, he said.

“Nobody’s ever ready for something like this,” he said. “We’re just waiting to see what’s next.”
