The film follows Humphrey Bogart as private investigator Sam Spade and his frantic search for the jeweled falcon of Malta and his partner's killer. The snappy hard-boiled dialogue owes much to the original novel published in 1930. In 1989, the film was selected to be a part of the Library of Congress' National Film Registry.
