Rusty Lemon

Band Q&A: Rusty Lemon

oklahoman.com

Why: The variety of musical backgrounds gives them a unique sound. This accomplished rock band has just been signed by Memphis Records, so Oklahomans will get a chance to see Rusty Lemon before they hit it big.

When: 10 p.m. Saturday.

Where: Bricktown Brewery, 1 N Oklahoma.

Q:What's up with the band's name?

A:Rusty Lemmon, vocals: I've always heard that my name would make a cool band name. So after my first band mates and I spent three psychedelic nights trying to come up with a better name, I just threw out the name "Rusty Lemon” and they dug it. But, of course I had to leave out one of the M's so as not to get the big head.

Q:Have any of your songs had special meaning to you? Why?

A:Landon Moore, bass: Definitely "Second Chance” is my favorite, because it defines the word "collaboration” for me. We wrote it in a small, rundown practice room in the middle of summer with no a/c. We had been there for a couple of hours just trying to force something to happen, and just when we were about to give up, that something just happened. Stephen (Williams, lead guitar and vocals) struck a chord, Rusty hit a melody, and I fell into pocket. It just felt right, you know?

Q:What are your best accomplishments and hopes for the future?

A:Dave Wood, tour manager: I guess the simple fact they found each other. The simple reason they can throw something out there, and the others won't knock it. They write really good music because they try every aspect. For the future, we are getting major label interest. Our producer, Pete Matthews, produced Evanescence's first album, which got them going.
