The return of hot weather didn’t stop thousands of people from attending Arts Festival Oklahoma, held Sunday on the Oklahoma City Community College campus.
The festival showcased numerous kinds of art, including jewelry, sculptures, paintings, wood art and glasswork.
"I love attending the many art festivals throughout the year. ... Seeing the variety of artists and their styles,” said Kaitlyn Moore of Lawton. "Each year I come saying I’m just going to browse, but always end up leaving with something.”
Marlena Cooley of Oklahoma City said, "All the artwork is amazing and the festival is a good community event for everyone.”
There were a handful of tents and more than 100 vendors on the hottest day in Oklahoma City since Aug. 26. The temperature was about 90 degrees.
Food and a stage for live performances also were available.
Bradley Keeton said the environment is friendly and not just catered to adults.
"My kids love having their face painted and walking around seeing other children viewing art,” Keeton, of Tulsa, said.
"There’s live music to listen to, dancers to watch and just people mingling all over,” Keeton said.
There were many smiling children sitting under a tent waiting to get their faces painted. Their faces lit up when it was their turn to pick what drawing would go on their faces.
Keeton’s youngest son jumped up and down trying to get his father’s attention to show off the art placed upon his face.
"Daddy, look. Look, daddy, I got a spider on my cheek,” said Alan Keeton, 4. "Isn’t it cool, daddy?”
Some OCCC students said they feel the festival brings positive attention to the campus.
"It’s great to see so many people enjoying themselves on our campus,” said Tiffany Strode, a sophomore.
"Yes, the focus is on the festival but at the same time people are bringing attention to the campus in a positive manner,” Strode said.
