Tuff Profit....

Hello Everyone!

Well we are bringing 2007 to a close and what a great year! Last night we had the pleasure to share the Stage with one of our heros of the Red Dirt world, Jason Boland! Jason is by far one of the coolest and most down to earth people you will ever meet. As you all know, we were lucky enough to open for a lot of major acts over the last 5 years and we have had a blast at everyone of them. But last night I was blown away as we came to the end of our 2 hour set in front of a packed venue to see Jason Boland grab his guitar with a big grin on his face and join us on stage! Jason and Cary took turns singing verses to Gene Collier’s famous song “Boys from Oklahoma” and the crowd went NUTS!! For the first 2 minutes of that song all we could see was flashing cameras! I have never seen my brothers in Tuff Profit smile so much for so long. This was by far one of the great moments in our career as a band. Jason and Tommy Tune finished the show out with a 2 hour ass-kicking acoustic set. The crowd sang to every song. Another wonderful moment was to sit and visit with Jason’s parents, Phillip and Kathy. They are very friendly and so proud of their son. Vicki and I could have talked to them all night and just about did! The Venue was the Back 40 Saloon in Jennings OK. This place has a great staff and is always a pleasure to work with. A must go to place for a great time. We loaded up early Saturday morning with some of our wonderful friends in tow and headed out for one last big adventure for 2007. Half way there Nathan’s Band Van blew a head gasket and we were broke down on the side of the road (just like Jason’s song “Truck stops Diaries”) that was weird! But we hooked the trailer up to Jessie’s truck and headed on down the road. Nate was following behind in the van that was bellowing smoke like something from a Cheech and Chong movie. Man, I’m sure Cary and Steve are writing a great song about the trip as you read this. All this fun was shared with our good friends, Dan Jackson, Malynda Tally , Billy and Debra Hoppock and many more. After we set up the show and did sound check we headed to downtown Jennings to find food. We landed at a small hamburger joint. Man were they freaked out when our crew of a least 14 came in there to eat. The chow was great as was the service. Before the show and after, we got to spend a lot of time with Jason and heard many cool stories of his adventure’ s with all of our heroes in the music world. What a life this young man of 33 has lived so far- it was amazing. A huge thank you to Hammer and Taylor for putting this show together.

So we still have one more show for 2007 and guess what! It will be at Snockers-New Year’s Eve- right here in our home town of Bartlesville! So come on out and let’s finish this great year off with a party to end all parties and watch 2008 come in together!

Be safe- Be Smart

Peace

Happy New Year from JFJO!

As 2007 draws to a close we wish all of you beautiful humans out there our very best. As the year wraps up, so does the work on the forthcoming Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey release, out on Hyena Records April 8th, 2008. The album promises to be otherworldly, simultaneously embracing and transcending our established sound for the constant reinvention and innovation that has become a mainstay to the JFJO you all know and love....

Speaking of the new album, be sure to check out the JFJO feature in the newest issue of Relix Magazine. Part of 'Reel Time,' read the piece for a glimpse into the making of the forthcoming release. Head on over to www.relix.com/digital (or just click here) to get a free digital subscription and read it online. Or, pick up a copy at a news stand near you (look for the Beastie Boys on the cover).

Before the clock strikes 12, let's not forget what occurred in Fred Land in 2007. In June our Regatta Bar performance marked the first of many with our new drummer, Josh Raymer. We also made our debut at the Discover Jazz Festival in Burlington and at Freihofer's Jazz Festival in upstate New York. We were also blessed with a very special June tour with guest Steve Kimock, where we made our debut at the Southpaw in Brooklyn amongst others. September found us collaborating with many more friends, like during our return to New Orleans where we played with Johnny Vidacovich, Big Sam, Simon Lott, and many more. September continued on the east coast with the Bjorkestra, and the memorable 'Life Effect' mini-run with Jim Hobbes and the Barr Brothers. Multiple Colorado runs, the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, and many memorable others rounded out a diverse year with JFJO.

Thanks to everyone who came out and made 2007 the powerhouse that it was! We Love You!

2008 will find us returning to the West for our album release festivities, and continuing right on into NOLA to celebrate with our friends during the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Stay tuned for further developments such as details on an extensive return to Europe, tantalizing updates on the forthcoming album, and much much more.

Ring in the year with Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey on the Beyond Jazz [XM 72] 'All-Nite Moja Timezone Throwdown!' Listen beginning at Midnight Eastern (9pm Pacific) as Beyond Jazz features seven red hot live shows that they enjoyed for the first time in 2006. JFJO will bring in the highly regarded Mountain Time Zone's New Year with a one hour slot featuring live material from the Berlin Jazz Fest from 2am until 3am E.S.T.

See you in 2008!

Soon you will be inundated with joy and an unyielding compulsion to put the new electronic JFJO masterpiece on repeat until you spontaneously combust, so we thought we would offer up some choice acoustic tracks for some colour and contrast. The tracks are from this past September, the 23rd to be precise, at The Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis,MD. The tracks present the band in an unique acoustic set where we find Reed sans effects pedal board. Enjoy the magic!

.....and for all you Electrofiles , what would the new year be without a little JFJO electronic improvisation to tickle your special places...this one comes to you from the HiHo Lounge in New Orleans, with a visit from Big Sam during the last five minutes or so. Enjoy!

HiHo Lounge Improvisation (w/Big Sam finale)

That 'Life Effect' run sure was fun... so much so that we felt as though this improvisational nugget of love should be available to all of you freaks yearning to add more JFJO to your 2008 playlists. This Improvisation comes from the 9.28.07 Stone Church (New Market,NH) show, and features Brad Barr on the guitar. Thanks to Clinton Vadnais for recording and mixing this gem!

Word on the street it's his best work to date.

The Christmas Truce 1914

December 25, 1914 : The Christmas Truce

Just after midnight on Christmas morning, the majority of German troops engaged in World War I cease firing their guns and artillery and commence to sing Christmas carols. At certain points along the eastern and western fronts, the soldiers of Russia, France, and Britain even heard brass bands joining the Germans in their joyous
singing.

At the first light of dawn, many of the German soldiers emerged from their trenches and approached the Allied lines across no-man's-land, calling out "Merry Christmas" in their enemies' native tongues. At first, the Allied soldiers feared it was a trick, but seeing the Germans unarmed they climbed out of their trenches and shook hands with the enemy soldiers. The men exchanged presents of cigarettes and plum puddings and sang carols and songs. There was even a documented case of soldiers from opposing sides playing a good-natured game of
soccer.

The so-called Christmas Truce of 1914 came only five months after the outbreak of war in Europe and was one of the last examples of the outdated notion of chivalry between enemies in warfare. In 1915, the bloody conflict of World War I erupted in all its technological fury, and the concept of another Christmas Truce became unthinkable.

Singer Popped After His Engagement Party

Austin Winkler, the lead singer of the rock group Hinder, was arrested late Saturday night in Jonesboro, Ark. on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Winkler told police he had a few glasses of wine at his engagement party.

Police administered a breathalyzer test at the scene, where he allegedly blew a 0.16 -- twice the legal limit in Arkansas. According to the Jonesboro Sun, an officer conducted the traffic stop after spotting an SUV traveling without headlights on.

The singer was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center, where he was given a blood alcohol content test and those results showed a 0.15, according to police.

Winkler was cited and scheduled to appear in Craighead County District Court on Jan. 2.
