The Guadapalooza 6

Subject: Guadaplooza2008
April 22, 2008

Calling all Friends and Artists!

The Guadapalooza 6 is scheduled for June 8, 2008, at the beautiful
Rolling Oaks Sports Bar and Grill in San Antonio, Texas. We have
traded the River for the Driving Range and an outstanding location.
We will have two stages, possibly three. So come and knock some balls
around, sing some tunes, join your friends and have a good time.

TXFFCMH supports Texas families who have children with mental health
needs through chapter and individual family support. We are expanding
our efforts by providing technical assistance to the Family Partner
Program at the Center for Health Care Services in San Antonio as
their work is a model for all of Texas' mental health centers. The
families they assist often have unique needs that are not funded
under typical social programs. Some of these needs that the
Federation has been asked to provide over the past few months are;
bus tokens for a parents who are ill, a child needing camp
registration allowing him to attend camp while his mother has
surgery, a student needing supplies for a school project, a family
that is short three meals before payday, a mattress or bed, a stove,
or a student needing a band uniform in order to be a member of the
local high school band. The national term for this is, flexible
funding, which allows for a child to have their needs met when there
is no resource for that item or activity.

As always, the event is a fabulous experience because of the purpose
and because of the wonderful artists that perform. This is our sixth
year to be honored by many new upstarts who are now hotshots in the
business and I thank you all with the deepest sincerity. We can never
determine the impact you have made in the lives of Texas' children
through the funds generated at the Guadapalooza events. Caring is a
gift that keeps paying forward.

This letter serves is both an invitation to play as well as an
invitation to attend. We are trying to reach all previous performers
and allow first opportunity to be a part of Guadapalooza 6. After
April 30, I will be sending out additional invitations to those who
are new to the event.

As always, Thank you all for your support

whisky tasting at the Stillwater Elks Lodge

Oklahoma Malt Whisky Society http://www.omws.org/uisge-beatha/ , Stillwater Elks http://www.elks.org/lodges/guestbook.cfm?LodgeNumber=1859 and the Celtic Fest www.okcelticfest.com have joined forces to bring a whisky tasting to the Stillwater Elks Lodge. The tasting will cover six areas of Scotland and provide education of the palate as we learn about the fine art of tasting, the history and distilleries in Scotland. There will be live Celtic music. More details to follow as Keith and Cindy Sheets head up this unique offering. If this works we will have more tastings to include one on ales, and porters. Date and program details to be announced in the next week. This is our second event with the Elks Club. The Elks raise money for many worthy causes in the Stillwater Community. It is one of several ways we are working in the Stillwater to thank them for being host to the OK Celtic Fest. Much of this festival from the Expo site to working funds has come from the
Stillwater Community and we need to find ways to give back to Stillwater who has given all of us a home for the fest. The more things happening all over the state increase awarenes for all the great things happening in Oklahoma and Irish Communities.

Body: reposted from Jeff

Please help. On Monday night all of the band gear (which belonged to Scotts Matthews) was stolen out of his SUV around the med center area. If you could pass it on to all of your friends to be on the look out.

Thanks Jeff
Also FYI...Some friends of Scott with help from Rolling Oaks golf center are "looking" at maybe a benifit, if you interested they have a around 4 bands so far willing to help out....
Here's the list of items to watch for on both the stage, and the pawn shop/Ebay:

1) Takamine Santa Fe DSF49C w/ Turquoise inlays around the sound hole and up the neck. Given to me by the parents of my best friend after he passed away at 25 years old. $2000, but irreplaceable.

(Scott Matthews painted on case)
2) Marshall AS50D acoustic amp. Brown in color. 50 watt, two channel.

$389
3) 2 X Mackie 12" PA mains/speakers. Passive. Grey in color. Model C300Z each.

$859
4) Samson RS12M Passive stage monitor (wedge) 12" $179 (easy to spot as the Samson logo has come off of the speaker cover/grill). Have fun with this one jack a$$es....snap crackle pop is all I have to say about it.

5) Black luggage rolling bag with assorted guitar cables and XLR's....pedals, DI Boxes, etc.

estimate roughly $400
6) 2 X Peavey Speaker poles $50-75 ish
7) Mackie Powered "box style" mixer 6 channel. Model 406M $500 and change.

8 ) Shure Beta58 microphone $149
9) Shure SM58 microphone $99
10) 1 mic stand $39
11) 20gig white iPod (this one's easy. it's loaded with Texas/Reddirt and is sadly enough one of the few that has Scott Matthews songs on it).

$279
12) Professional grade Tambourine and shakers $50
13) iPod FM transmitter (Monster brand) $80
14) They stole my flipping cell charger

Rollin’ Phattys Release Debut CD “Red Hot Joe”

Nashville, TN (May 8th, 2008) The 2008 PCL Oklahoma Music Award winning “Blues Band Of the Year”, Rollin’ Phattys, released their debut CD, Red Hot Joe May 6, 2008 on the Oklahoma based indie label Cimsound Records. The Rollin’ Phattys describe themselves as “Southern Fried Blues, Rock & Soul Steeped in Tulsa Tradition.” With influences ranging from Leon Russell, JJ Cale and Eric Clapton to The Allman Bros. Band, Stevie Ray Vaughn, B.B. King and Z.Z. Top, the band has quickly developed a reputation as a premier musical force in their region.

The Rollin’ Phattys are comprised of Ken "Cooter" Helton on vocals and guitar; John "Johnny B" Buckner on bass guitar; Jeff "Jeffreaux" Parker on guitar, keyboards and vocals, and Dixie "D Dub" Weathers on drums and percussion.

The Rollin’ Phattys band members have been active participants in the regional music scene of the South-Central states since the mid -70's. If you were around the Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana music scenes in the 70's, 80's and 90's you likely have heard these great players. Individually and collectively, they have toured across the U.S. and Canada over their careers, performing extensively in Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana, with a diverse group of artists including, Smokin’ Joe Kubek & Bnois King, Watermelon Slim, Tracy Conover, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Jason Boland, Mike McClure & the Great Divide, Jefferson Starship, Alice Cooper, Buck Owens, Rodney Crowell, Johnny Paycheck, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Jerry Jeff Walker, Kevin Welch, Jimmie LaFave, Brewer & Shipley, and Artimus Pyle (former Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer).

Red Hot Joe is chock-full of great original music - from the dark, swampy, slide guitar drenched Southern rock opener, “Plantation Girl,” to the regional hit, “Red Hot Joe,” wherein Parker channels the great Dickey Betts - while Buckner and guest drummer Eric Hansen (Hadden Sayers, Jimmie LaFave), lay down a funky groove-laden romp which provides the perfect platform for Helton’s soulful and gravelly vocals. “Paradise Street” is a groovin’ bluesy R&B track that features great piano stylings by multi-instrumentalist Parker. The band switches gears for the Zydeco Blues mover, “Cochon De Lait (Down on the Bayou)” which highlights guest musician and Louisiana Zydeco legend, Chubby Carrier.

“My Heart is on Fire” demonstrates the depth of the band - and of Parker’s guitar wizardry – with a blues-based sound reminiscent of Hendrix. It is the perfect showcase for Helton’s vocals. “Black Bear River” finds Buckner and Weathers playing it tight and funky, while Parker and Helton give the whole affair a solid Z.Z. Top flavored sheen. “Greta” is a true anthem in the great Southern rock tradition, and rolls along with jangly acoustic guitar, twin harmony guitars, and B3 organ. “Sugar Babe,” the only cover on the set, is from the pen of Texas-born guitarist and influential blues man, “Mance” Lipscomb. With guest players Pat Moss on harmonica, and Daniel Williams on drums, the song fits right into the cannon of the Rollin’ Phattys arsenal of material. “Cherry Street Blues” dubbed the “New Tulsa Anthem”, rocks with intensity and pays homage to the legendary Tulsa band Xebec (the last band signed to Shelter Records before it's final demise), with a superb shuffle groove and bluesy soaring guitars. It also features Xebec alum Jim Downing on keyboards. “Kim’s Cowtown Shuffle” rounds out the CD with a raw boogie-woogie scorcher that reminds you that at their heart - the Rollin’ Phattys are a “good-time fun-lovin’ party band” who can jam with the best.

Red Hot Joe is available at CDBaby. com, Apple iTunes, Digstation, Amazon, Napster, and Audio Lunchbox.

Bring your favorite summertime beverage of course, that means ice chests are welcome. The way it has been done in the past is, bring a dish of food, desert or whatever you desire and we will enjoy it all until it is gone. Bring a little extra cash, we will have a merchandise table set up for the artists, the only costs will be $5 to park, if you want to set up a tent or bring a travel trailer, etc, include that information in your email to me, space is very limited. If the Oklahoma weather cooperates with us, and the winds don't blow 50 mph, there will be plenty of music at the campfires. There is no telling who might drop in to visit the Luau, so you don't want to miss it.
For directions to the Cowboy Luau, feel free to email me at paparonzi@pldi.net.

Hope to see everyone there....

The Night Trips Express
In Review

Well, the bus trip last month was a blast! We want to sincerely thank everyone that opted to climb on board and join us for an evening of decadence. It was really cool and we had a great time. I also want to thank all the peeps from T-town that came out and endured naked ladies just so they could see 4th Order. One final shout out goes to Jared Cranke over at Stillwater Scene Magazine. Glad you had a good time and we appreciate ya!

You Can't Keep A Good Band Down
A Slice Of Life

Our first show in May didn't quite go as planned. A big sorry goes out to all you Enid fans for us having to cancel the May 3rd show at The Mine Co. Our one and only drummer, Erok, had a slight run-in with a particularly nasty piece of glass just as we were about to roll out of town. A nice deep gash to the hand! No fear though. Erok is a tough bastard and he's recovering nicely. Erok asks that you send cash in lieu of flowers. We'll let you know as soon as we have the date rescheduled.

It's On At Tom's
The Great American Beer Joint

"Trader Tom's Tavern", that is. Last month brought us to Altus, OK for the first time. I'm telling you what, these people know how to throw a party! We met a ton of super cool people there. A lot of them from Altus Air Force Base. We can't wait to get back down there this weekend.

Friday will be full on 4th Order and Saturday will be a very special (and rare) "Stripped" performance. Yep, you heard right. A couple of acoustic guitars, a pair of bongos, and some silky smooth vocals from Mr. Redbeard himself. Bring your incense and candles for this one... it's going to be an intimate evening for sure!

Where's Riegel
Congratulations Brett!!

Our very own sound man, Brett Riegel, has not been seen since his graduation ceremony this past Saturday. His mother is very worried so if you have any information on his whereabouts, please contact the authorities.
