— Christmas is less than a week away and the stress is mounting and money is getting tight.
But there is a way to unwind and enjoy some of Muskogee’s best attractions for free.
The Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame and the Three Rivers Museum is presenting Christmas in the Depot District on Saturday.
The event includes live music at the Hall of Fame and a Toys from the Past Christmas Display at the museum.
Santa Claus is making an appearance for pictures and a wish list signing.
Beth Seim, hall of fame director, said she is excited to be offering free admission to Muskogee residents.
“It’s going to be great,” she said. “It’s a day everyone can come down and see what we have to offer without paying admission.”
Savannah Faught, 16, is playing the harp for the Christmas in the Depot District at the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday.
“I have been taking lessons for the last seven years,” she said. “It’s a rare instrument to play but I love it.”
Faught said she became interested about nine years ago when she and her family were visiting at a friends house and their daughter played.
“I am really excited about the whole thing,” she said. “I have played at a few things like the OSBI Christmas banquet and I’ve played at the Capitol in Oklahoma City.”
She said she plans on playing some Christmas songs and a few classic pieces including her favorite “On Eagles Wings,” arranged by David Ice.
“It’s a moving piece and I love it,” she said.
Jean Johnston of the museum said she loves the Toys from the Past display.
“We have a lot of people who come in and reminisce about the toys they recognize,” she said. “My favorite is the airplane. It’s in great condition and nobody has done a thing to it.”
Glancing at the toboggan, she said she could remember being on one when she was a child.
“We had it going so fast,” she said. “We ran it into a cabin, but we jumped off right before impact.”
