Outlaws hits The Strip

The Strip's newest bar rocked its grand opening Saturday night.
Outlaws put on the Red Dirt for Red Cross benefit concert with several bands playing, including Red Dirt Rangers, Bo Phillips Band and Chad Sullins.
The bar was full of people and cowboy boots. Walking into the building, you feel as though you've driven one hour south and hit up Oklahoma City's Bricktown.
The new joint has a roomy dance floor, and plenty of room for two-stepping and spins. The rustic atmosphere and size of the bar counter set it apart from some of the others, and there were plenty of bartenders quickly taking drink orders.
"Even though there were a lot of people, it never felt as crowded as most bars can feel," business management junior, Nicole Snowden said. "I'm excited for Outlaws, I think it makes a nice addition to The Strip, plus it has a great dance floor,"
The bar smells new; the scent of freshly-cut wood wafted through the air. The rustic decorations are a nice touch, too.
"Outlaws is by far the nicest bar on the strip," accounting and finance junior, Joe White said.

A new club on the Strip teams up with a local emergency response organization to open its doors with a bang and a fundraiser. Outlaws, 501 S. Washington St., the newest attraction on the Strip, will open Saturday at 7 p.m. to host the second annual Red Dirt for Red Cross fundraiser.
I predict Outlaws is going to be a big hit with the college crowd, which will hopefully benefit the American Red Cross and local displaced families this weekend. Outlaws is a large, two-story club that can hold more than 800 partygoers. It is decorated with dozens of neon light fixtures advertising beer, four 150-inch flat-screen TVs and a few smaller flat-screen TVs around the bar if larger ones weren't enough. It has two bars and a large dance floor. The club, when open for regular business, will have a DJ every night and feature live bands at least once a week.
The north-central Oklahoma chapter of the American Red Cross helps local families who have experienced a disaster. It takes care of their "emergency needs by providing vouchers for groceries, clothing, and glasses," among other things, said Vicki Henington, the director of the fundraiser. It will also provide housing in a hotel for families that need it.
The chapter has already helped four families in the last two weeks who have been troubled by home fires. The Red Cross raised nearly $6,000 last year at the event and hopes to raise the same this year, if not more, Henington said. Any cash donation will get you in the event, but the first 100 people to donate $10 will receive a $5 gift card to Louie's Grill & Bar. There will also be a silent auction featuring items such as an OSU autographed football and basketball, a new iKICK by KICKER, a Twilight movie pack and much more from 7-10:30 p.m.
The event includes some of the best Red Dirt bands around as entertainment. Red Dirt is a genre of music musician Bo Phillips described as an alterative mix of rock and country that originated in Stillwater. The line up includes Bo Phillips Band, Red Dirt Rangers, Chad Sullins and the Last Call Coalition, Kevin Pickett and Southern Rain, Taylor Atkinson, Robby Vanvekoven, and Josh Boyles. Bo Phillips Band's new single "Never" has reached Top 40 on the Texas Music Chart. This will be the second year for the band to participate in the event. Lead singer and Oklahoma State University alumnus Bo Phillips said he wants to give back to the community and help others.
