NASHVILLE, TN-June 10, 2008- NEW DOG, OLD TRICKS is SUSAN GIBSON'S forthcoming studio release (June 17, 2008) on Smith Entertainment Records. The 15 original tracks can be described as a personal journal taken over the last decade by a songwriter savvy enough to land one of the biggest-selling singles in country music history. Written during Gibson’s college days in Missoula, Montana, “Wide Open Spaces” became (years later) the title track to the Dixie Chicks’ major label debut in 1998. The smash hit was #1 on the Billboard country charts for 4 straight weeks and won the CMA Award for Single of the Year in 1999. If you too felt the power and desperate yearning for freedom in “Wide Open Spaces,” then you would do well to explore the rest of Susan Gibson’s incredible journey.

NEW DOG, OLD TRICKS couldn’t be more aptly named considering this fine stage in Gibson’s life. The record represents a “come full circle” perspective beautifully tied together by a string of tales, both old and new, and is what Gibson calls, “a long time coming.” The record’s first single “Perfect World” is one of a handful of songs that have traveled all the way from her earlier days with the Groobees. Other fan favorites include “Miles City,” “Cloud 9,” “Gatesville,” “Walls Come Down,” and “2 Hometowns” just to name a few. The record also features several brand new tracks including “Start Over,” “Baby Teeth,” “Jezable’s Lament” and “What’d I Ever Worry ‘Bout Before I Met You.” Each song was handpicked and freshly prepared in a fluid production that can only be created by Walt Wilkins, a fifth generation Texan singer/songwriter/producer whose music has been compared to the great writers of his time including John Steinbeck. The collaboration proved to be a perfect fit and an enlightening experience. “If there is anyone you want to produce your record, it’s someone like Walt. He is sound driven and true to the song. He is not going to do anything that doesn’t need to be there,” says Gibson.

A superb follow up to her previous solo releases (CHIN UP and OUTERSPACE), NEW DOG, OLD TRICKS serves up a perfect blend of old and new Susan Gibson steeped in the here and now. And if you are inclined to audio books on a long drive this record will do you one better. It has it all: Joy, pain, laughter, rebellion, understanding, humility, courage, heart and mystery. It is an iron-willed story of a life thus far well digested with room and anticipation for lots, lots more. NEW DOG, OLD TRICKS can be purchased at Best Buy, Hastings, Waterloo, Cactus, HEB, Virgin Amazon, Itunes, mom & pop shops, and wherever fine music is sold!
