Country singer Jason Boland says he's not too worried about the Texas
music scene getting bigger - even if some might argue it's getting
saturated.
''People say what they may,'' Boland said. ''If they want to say it is
getting watered down, I don't know, those are probably people that
don't play music that say that.''
Boland, who does play music with his band the Stragglers, comes to
Abilene for a show Saturday at Cowboys (1850 S. Clack St.).
Boland is from Oklahoma, where he and his contemporaries Stoney LaRue
and Cross Canadian Ragweed began their music careers.
Boland has seen the Texas music scene grow from nothing to a very
lucrative business for many people.
''Are there a lot of people in it? Yes, because it is successful right
now, it is popular and there is money to be made,'' he said in a
recent telephone interview. ''You are always going to have that in
anything successful.'
Having a lot of bands in the scene gives fans a lot to choose from,
Boland said.
''People will have the palate to find out what they like and purchase
tickets to see it and purchase albums that suits whatever they want,''
he said.
