Make-A-Wish benefit party to feature food, prizes, singles auction

Single in the City is going to get spicy.

The second annual party and auction -- from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 22 at Kampai Lounge, 3301 S. Peoria Ave. -- will offer live salsa music from the Salsa Rhythm Project, a fashion show from Chrome Clothing Company, drinks and hors d'oeuvres, door prizes and a live singles auction featuring the area's most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes.

There will even be a chance to win an ES 350 Lexus lease from Lexus of Tulsa.

Mix and mingle with singles of all ages, view the latest date-friendly fashions, enjoy food from Kampai Lounge and raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Singles and date packages that include dinner and tickets to some of the area's most popular spots will be up for bid. Singles will include local television personalities, a police officer, a doctor, a Tulsa sports team cheerleader and other young professionals.

Oklahoma Magazine is the presenting sponsor. Other sponsors are Greg and Tara Hughes, Kampai Lounge, 106.9 FM (K-Hits), Lexus of Tulsa, Cox Communications, Singles Station Dating Co., and Chrome Clothing Company.

Tickets are available in advance from all sponsors for $20, or at the door for $25. For more information on Single in the City, call 744-6205.

Set sail with Humane Society

Here comes the Humane Society of Tulsa's Bow Meow Luau -- Pirates of the Pawcific. It all sets sail March 10 at the Embassy Suites.

Guests will enjoy scrumptious tropical treats while finding an array of treasure in the silent auction and while bidding on items in a live auction led by that dapper master of auctioneers Jay Litchfield.

On the auction block will be a Bowflex Ultimate Home Gym and Nautilus SelectTech dumbbells, both donated by Nautilus; a season package to the PGA Championship; and two round-trip tickets courtesy of Southwest Airlines.

Silent auction items will include a 4-carat lemon quartz ring, fine wines, pearls, and dining at local restaurants.

There will also be one special key that will unlock a chest of golden doubloons.

Search for an oyster with pearls, play at lots for a 2-carat diamond bracelet, or grab some plunder at pull tabs.

The Twisted Blades, along with a rascally band of pirates from the School of Stage Combat, will offer up swashbuckling and all-around good entertainment while A Touch of Aloha will captivate the audience with Polynesian dances. There will even be a chance to learn the hula.

The Humane Society of Tulsa is a nonprofit organization that promotes responsible pet ownership and pet population control by providing education, counseling and assistance on proper pet care with an emphasis on spaying and neutering. The adoption center specializes in matching pets with perfect families.

Bill Griggs is the Admiral Ben's Bones sponsor. Midshipman Mutt patrons are Cathy and Mark Meussner. Black Bark patrons include Betty Belcher, John and Tricia Arend, F&M Bank and Trust Co., and Melissa Minshall. Salty Dog patrons are KJRH, channel 2; Rod Coulter; Stuart and Tiffany Campbell; Mark and Lisa Coolidge; and Richard and Kami Hoar.

Tickets for the event are $40 per person and may be purchased in advance at the Adoption Center at 6808 S. Memorial Drive, or on a will-call basis by calling the Humane Society at 250-DOGS.
