Snorty Horse Saloon

A word of advice to some of you band people out there on an issue that came up last weekend. If any of you are in a band and a club owner or promoter tells you to pay to play, you tell them to eat shit!!! That is not supporting live music in any way, shape, or form. For whatever reason, they don’t like a band, simply don’t have them back, but don’t stand for that crap. I feel like the Snorty Horse does a great job with self promotion and promotion of bands that play here, and never one time did I expect to be paid by a band. The answer is easy…The more people that come through the door, the more who ever is playing gets paid. That should give incentive for bands to “get the word out” that they are playing at the Snort Horse or where ever they happen to be playing. Don’t punish bands right off the get go. Make them feel comfortable, welcome, appreciated and maybe they’ll make it big someday and maybe they’ll play at your bar when they are selling out arenas. Ask the guys at George’s Majestic in Fayetteville. They told me a cool story about a very popular act that will make a point to play there at least once year just cause of the way he is treated every time he comes here. I’m a firm believer in treating people the way you want to be treated and don’t put up with bull shit tactics like that.

BIG WEEK AT THE HORSE!!!

WED. SEPT. 26th: RECKLESS KELLY with BRANTLEY GILBERT!!!

R.K. is an absolute favorite here at he horse. Awesome guys, awesome band, and I guarantee an awesome time. True story about last time they were here that has nothing to do with the show. I guess one of them, might have even been their bus driver shot a wild pig in Texas the day before they played here. That’s really not a big deal ‘cause pigs are every where in most of Texas. What blew my mind was how the pig was prepared. They quartered it almost like you would a deer and wrapped the meat up in foil. They then set it on the block of the bus motor and headed to Springfield, MO. Several hours later, they rolled into the parking lot and the pork was ready to go. It was pretty good too. I just never seen someone open the hood of a bus and pull out a pork roast. “And if that ain’t country I’ll kiss your ass!”

The Brantley Gilbert guys are also a bunch of country boys from Athens, Georgia. They’re damn good too. They have been in the top ten of the Myspace country music chart and #1 or #2 on the southern music rock chart for the past 12 months. They draw huge numbers in Georgia and have sold over 10,000 CD’s in a relatively short amount of time. Heartland Bow Hunter’s, which is here close to Springfield also sponsors them. Always cool when you get a hunting show to sponsor you. Not much better then a truck load of guns, and a cooler full of beer. Try and get here a little early and check these guys out. The way things are lookin’, Ted Nugent may shoot a Gazelle or somethin’ on stage. Might even start the show a little early just ‘cause it’s a weeknight. You can get tix online or day of the show for $12.

THUR SEPT. 27th: TROY and DAY SLEEPER!!!

Been wanting to get Troy in here for a long time. They won the Battle of the Bands here in Springfield and got to play at Rockfest. They’ve opened up for pretty much every major act that has been through Springfield and have enjoyed some well deserved success in the last year. I’ve gotten to be pretty good buddies with Bletzo, their guitar player, and he has sent me some good bands and good advise. I’ve been waiting for this one for a long time.

FRI. SEPT. 28th: SHOOTER JENNINGS and WADE BOWEN!!!

Finally! Can’t tell you how many phone calls I’ve gotten like “When’s Shooter comin’ or when’s Wade comin’” so here you go and get a double dose of two truly great acts on a Friday night! Last time Shooter played was at the old bar and was off the hook. He’s getting’ ready to come out with a new CD and I hope he’ll play some of his new stuff. One of the reasons I like Shooter so much is ‘cause he doesn’t dwell and his father’s name. He’s proud of it, but doesn’t take advantage of it. His music is his own. He’s been on tour with guys like Alice and Chains and you will see that his show is the best in combining rock and country. It’s wild!!!

Got Wade opening. He’s had great success in Oklahoma and Texas and it’s good to see him make his way back to Missouri. Wade is all over the Texas music charts and is a show you need to see.

Here’s how it’s going to work:

Show is in the big room. The small room will be open also although beer and liquor will be available in the big room. Doors will open around 7. Music will start around 9 with Wade Bowen. Shooter will start sometime around 10 but please allow at least a 30 minute window. If it’s packed early, we will start early. We do have tix online for $16. They will also be available the day of the show (after we open) for $18. Also, after the show the small bar will remain open and I’m bettin’ somethin’ cool might happen in there later on. Just have to wait and see.

SAT. SEPT. 29th: The MARK CHAPMAN BAND "LIVE AT THE SNORTY HORSE SALOON" CD RECORDING!

That means crowd mics!!! Lot’s of crowd mics and you can scream into those sombitches as loud as your throat can take! Mark and the band love the Snorty Horse and they have consistently drawn big #’s when we needed them the most. People love to come hear Mark sing. What could be more appropriate then to do a live CD recording here. Mark’s had the one CD out for awhile now and is working on another one, but his fans can’t wait, so were gonna give you a live record to hold ya over. I would tell you that things are going to be a little more professional then a typical Snorty Horse show because it is going to be recorded. But that wouldn’t be the Horse now would it? This thing is going to be RAW!!! I’m sure there will be some camera’s floating around for some CD cover pics, so I’m sure you girls will be looking your best, as if you don’t already at a Mark Chapman show. I swear, you girls are gonna make me go blind. $7.
