The city of Coweta is celebrating fall this weekend -- along with a very special homecoming.
The Coweta Fall Festival in downtown Coweta runs Thursday through Sunday, with music, entertainment, food and family fun planned all four days.
Admission is free, said John Roberts, stage manager for this year's event.
Family-friendly events will include a turtle race, hotdog eating contest, a "Coweta Idol" competition -- and even a visit from Elvis.
Mega-ride passes will be sold for $55 at the gate, or daily special ride passes will be available for $15, which allows festivalgoers blocks of time to ride amusement rides for one price, he said. More information is available at the festival's Web site, www.tulsaworld.com/FallFest.
Highlights include performances by country musician Mike Barham on Friday, 2007 Spot Music Award nominee Travis Kidd with Dale Simpson on Saturday, and Tanya Blake on Sunday, Roberts said.
The biggest draw, however, is the "homecoming" they're planning for local hard rock act Crooked X on Saturday night, Roberts said.
The band of young rockers -- and repeat Spot Music Awards nominees -- will headline Saturday's festivities, following a 10 p.m. fireworks display, he said.
"This is huge, a banner year for us," he said.
As an Oklahoma Centennial event, planners added an extra day, doubled the number of music acts playing and expect more than 3,000 people each day.
And with the increased crowds comes increased interest in Saturday's headliners, he said.
With them will be representatives from the William Morris Agency, which represents clients in all segments of the entertainment industry, and Spencer Proffer and Doc McGhee, of McGhee-Proffer Media, the band's management team, said Donnie Frizzell, who works for the group.
But that's not all.
"We may see a slew of other very special guests," said Roberts. "Maybe even camera crews and who knows what else."
With the Crooked X kids confirmed to play dates later this year with rock legend KISS, the rumors of just who may show up are rampant, he said.
"This likely could be the biggest entertainment event to hit Coweta in years," he said.
