WED SEPT. 19: STONEY LARUE and others!!! This was a late booking so I hope this gets out to everybody. Stoney will have one of the best live shows you will see and has an awesome band including one of those cool organ/piano with the speakers that spin around. Won't get into what happened last time he played here other then I don't remember a whole lot of that night. Must have been good...just wish I could remember it. That's another story over a cold beer story. I'll keep my guard up this go round. "Oklahoma Breakdown" was #1 on the Texas music chart I think; it may have been another chart but I do know it's a damn good song. "One Chord Song" is probably my favorite Stoney tune, especially live. These guys will rock it out for forty five minutes. Got to see it to believe it! If you have been to the Snorty Horse, you've probably known who Stoney is and know that he is partly responsible for this big "Musical Movement". I know a bunch of you went to the big show in Texas awhile back with the Black Crows and Ragweed and said Stoney was your favorite. Expect to see you guys here!
Another thing cool about this night is the openers. Kenny Deforest is going to entertain us early on. First time I've every paired comedy up with a big name act. Cole and Cody are also goin' to play a few song's, which might as well be comedy. Going to be a wild night!!!
You can buy tix online for this show or they will be available the day of the show for $12.
THUR. SEPT. 20th: COWBOY TOY ROPIN'!!! I know we were supposed to have a band play, but they cancelled last minute. Needless to say my experience with local rock bands has not been good. I guess I'm just used to people actually doing what they say they are going to do. Maybe I'm weird. So...we are going to rope a toy cow instead and get really wasted and rock out to the Foo Fighters new album. 100% pay back and no cover. And it's whiskey night.
FRI. SEPT. 21st: RANDY CROUCH and the FLYING HORSE!!! Duck and cover!!! Cowboy Aliens in the house!!! Yes, Jimmy Hendrix has risen from the dead...in the form of a fiddle player named Randy Crouch. I've gotten a bunch of this stuff from his myspace page that you guys have to check out. It's put together by his fans because Randy doesn't have electricity let alone a computer. Every time he wants to play something electric he starts up an old van outside set up on blocks used to power his amp. Most of those pictures on his myspace page were taken at the old snorty horse and you just got to see them. That and you got to hear "High as the Price of Gas". There are also a couple of quotes from myself on there also.
Crouch is often referred to as the "World's Greatest Rock and Roll Fiddle Player." His achievements include:
2004 fiddler of the year.
2005 Red Dirt Hall of Fame
2006 Steel Guitarist of the Year
2005 Musicians Hall of Fame
2005 Entertainer of the Year
2007 Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame
Hell, there are all kinds of shit that he's won and I'm already tired of typing.
You can get some of his songs on ourtracks.com.
Randy has played with everybody from the neighbor down the road to Willie Nelson. That and he believes in Cowboys getting kidnapped from earth to catch the flying horses on Mars. By the way...His music is described as being psychedelic. If you see an alien crawl out of his guitar or fiddle case, do your best to ignore it. Don't know if any of you out there are a fan of "shrooms", but a conversation with Crouch is the best "shroom" experience you will ever have without actually doing them.
His band consist of Dan the bass player who is the original member of the Flying Horses. T-Guard, who used to play drums for Brandon Jenkins and is now a hot commodity for any band in Tulsa. His guitar player could be anybody from his beagle dog to Vince Harmon of Leftover Salmon. It's going to be good whoever it is.
SAT. SEPT. 22nd: SOUNDS UNDER RADIO and STARK RAVING CALM!!! Going to switch things up a bit on this one. You may have recognized "Sounds Under Radio from the Spiderman 3 soundtrack. Based out of Austin, Texas these guys define an Indie Rock/Pop band. I've wanted to do this stuff for a long time and a big thanx goes out to Brandon Hodges for basically calling me out and calling me a big fat box. So, I booked the show. I hate getting called out. These guys remind me of a kind of a new age jazzy Cold Play. Check them out and see for yourself.
I really like STARK RAVING CALM. Great bass lines in kind of an experimental/progressive mix. They remind me a lot of TOOL. I love this "newer sound" especially for the bar and I really can't wait to get some different stuff in here. This is about as different as it gets. $1 off if you bring in an incense candle. Check them out. Their music is borderline mesmerizing and leaves no choice but to listen to every note in a sort of lackadaisical, almost hypnotized manner. See if you guys agree.
Thanks,
