The Stonewall Tavern’s string-up lights are dim in comparison to the glow of New York City for local DJ Granger Brown.
Brown is trading his Stillwater venue, at 115 S. Knoblock St., for big-city production studios.
After DJing the Stonewall’s Electric Beatdown on Thursday nights, Brown is saying goodbye after tonight.
Danger Granger is his spinning name and his techno sound is his trademark.
Granger has been spinning a little more than a year and started the Electric Beatdown.
Cassey Hall, a Stonewall bartender and apparel merchandising major, said Thursday night is extra special with a more diverse crowd.
“We get a lot of different people from the Strip,” Hall said. “It is crazy busy.”
Joe Cervantes, owner of The Stonewall Tavern, warned people to get there early because the dance floor fills up quickly.
“Granger has been here since day one,” Cervantes said. “He wanted to do something different in Stillwater, and it has been great ever since.”
His style of music adds to The Stonewall Tavern atmosphere.
“Everyone goes wild, and they get away from their everyday worries. You can see it in their faces,” Brown said.
Tyler Kirk, a wildlife management senior is a regular at the Electric Beatdown.
“It is the only electronic music you can hear in Stillwater, and he is dedicated to it,” Kirk said. “Thursday night is at this level because of his promotional work.”
Granger graduated from OSU this summer with a degree in entrepreneurship, and he has worked in television and radio.
He hosted an independent radio show and filmed “The Rock and Road Show” on the Stillwater TV channel.
For the TV show, they took videos of Stillwater’s live music and made skits to them.
Granger also worked three jobs at The Hideaway, the radio station and as a DJ. With his fast-paced lifestyle he is already prepared for a city that doesn’t sleep.
“Sleep, what’s that?” he joked.
With this experience, Granger is looking for a production assistant job.
“I will do the grunt work: filming, editing and going on location,” he said.
Granger will keep spinning in New York, but it will not be his focus.
Entertainment is his passion, and his personality type attracts him to the city.
“I am social, and I don’t mind putting myself out there,” he said.
With connections in television, he has set up lunches with representatives of NBC studios.
Although his last Electric Beatdown is today, his final show is tomorrow at Indulge, formerly known as 319, on 319 S. Washington St.
The Kicker Launch Party lasts from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., and they will be giving away prizes.
Granger said aside from his family, he will miss the people here but he is eager to start the next stage of his life in the big city.
“If you make it in New York, you can make it anywhere, and I want to test it,” Granger said.
