Downtown CineSeries showing “Dead Man”
The next in a series of free outdoor film events will happen Sept. 2
(TULSA, Okla.) – The Downtown CineSeries, a project of the newly created downtown marketing committee, will hold the next in a series of free outdoor music and film events on Wednesday, Sept. 2 on the Greens between the Crowne Plaza Tulsa Williams Center and the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.
Attendees need only bring a chair or blanket (a limited number of chairs will be available) in order to secure a spot in front of the big screen set up outside to watch a movie under the stars and against the backdrop of beautiful downtown Tulsa.
The series, which kicked off in June with the showing of a classic Tulsa film, “Rumble Fish,” will occur the first Wednesday of each month through October. The September event will be Sept. 2 showing “Dead Man” directed by Jim Jarmusch and starring Johnny Depp.
“Dead Man” is the story of a young man’s journey, both physically and spiritually, into very unfamiliar terrain. William Blake (Depp) travels to the extreme Western frontiers of America in the second half of the nineteenth century. Lost and badly wounded, he encounters a very odd, outcast Native American, named “Nobody” who believes Blake is actually the dead English poet of the same name. The film has an R rating for moments of strong violence, a graphic sex scene and some language.
Food and adult beverages provided by Crowne Plaza will be available for purchase and live music performed by local band, Paul Benjamin Band, will begin approximately at 7:30 p.m. with the showing of “Dead Man” following at dusk.
The Downtown CineSeries is being helped in part by Crowne Plaza Tulsa Williams Center, Tulsa Convention and Visitors Bureau, Circle Cinema, Indion Entertainment Group, Tulsa Lawyers for the Arts, Michael Sager First Street Lofts and FieldGuide Media.
The October event, and series finale, will be on Wednesday, Oct. 7. For details, visit the program’s Web site at www.tulsadowntowncineseries.com.
