Oklahoma man dies in Reno Co. collision

An Oklahoma man died late Saturday in a head-on collision on U.S. 50 in western Reno County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Jerry C. Newport, 60, of Okmulgee, Okla., was westbound in a 1990 Mitsubishi when he drove left of center and struck an eastbound 1999 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Mitchell S. Hanks, 46, of Lone Tree, Iowa. Hanks was not injured.

The patrol reported that both men were wearing seat belts at the time of the 10:20 p.m. accident.
