Garth Brooks Rocks and Writes in Tinseltown
Garth Brooks will make history at Los Angeles' famed Staples Center this weekend. The country superstar is set to perform five live shows over the next two days -- the first artist ever to perform and sell out five shows in such a short amount of time at the venue. The 85,000 tickets were sold in under an hour. All proceeds will benefit victims of the devastating California wildfires.These shows are a rare treat, as Brooks is retired from touring. He has been adamant about putting family first, vowing not to gas up the tour bus again until his three daughters are grown. He and wife Trisha Yearwood are regulars at the girls' soccer games and are enjoying the quiet life in Oklahoma.
"In ten years or so, we'll see if our children are on their own and doing great," he told AOL Music in an exclusive interview. "And then I'll see if Mrs. Yearwood isn't burned out and would like to go back out. If we get a chance to go out and light it up one more time, then I gotta tell you, that would be a fantastic opportunity."
In the meantime, the Los Angeles Times reports that Brooks is returning to screenwriting. Does that mean his rockstar alter-ego Chris Gaines will finally get his movie? The silver screen project was stalled after the 1999 album Brooks recorded under the pseudonym failed to live up to sales or critical expectations. But Brooks apparently didn't give too many hints as to what exactly he's writing.
Part of Brooks' first show in Los Angeles tonight will be broadcast live on CBS at 9:00pm ET. Viewers will be encouraged to call in to make pledges to help the wildfire victims.
