‘A Musical Journey’

Cellist Performs in Concert Series

EDMOND--Tess Remy Schumacher, a cellist, will be presented in concert at the University of Central Oklahoma.

Mrs. Schumacher, professor of cello and chamber music at the school, will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Her performance is part of the Faculty Artist Concert Series.

“She will take listeners on a musical journey around the world by highlighting cello solo music written by a variety of composers,” a statement said.

The cellist will perform Lutoslawski’s “Sacher Variations for Cello Solo,” Levinson’s “Prayer for Cello Solo,” Cohen’s “Folk Suite for Violoncello,” Casals “Song of the Birds” and Henze’s “Serenade for Cello.”

A native of Germany, Mrs. Schumacher has won first prize in Jugend Musiziert, that country’s annual music competition, which regularly draws more than 20,000 competitors.

Also, she once won first prize in string division of the International Artists Competition in New York and in Rome’s Carlo-Zecchi Competition.

The cellist has performed at Wigmore Hall in London, at Jubilee Hall in Singapore and at Carnegie Hall of New York.

Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased at the door, but students who show identification will be admitted free.

Tess Remy Schumacher will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the University of Central Oklahoma.
