May 2, 2009 On May 2, 2009 The Oklahoma History Center will open the most exciting exhibit to date; The History of Rock and Roll in Oklahoma. The exhibit itself will amaze even the most knowledgeable music aficionado, but the opening festivities will be the largest most fun packed event since the opening of the History Center. As you might imagine it will be filled with music. There will be fourteen different bands on three separate stages with bands playing from 11 am until 5pm. The bands will feature the rockabilly sound of the Oh! Johnny Girls, the sweet renditions of Camille Harp, the driving rock of Unmarked Cars, to contemporary sounds of Crocodile. One of the featured bands, John Moreland and the Black Gold Band had one of their songs nominated for the official state rock-n-roll song. Wes Reynolds, who will be playing had his first hit when he was 16 years old with "Trip to the Moon" in 1958 and is still actively recording and entertaining.
In addition to the music there will be lots of family friendly activities including; Rock Band Xbox 360, Tie-die T-shirt booth, rock star make over and costume contest for your favorite era in Rock and Roll History. There will even be a stage set up with all the trappings of a concert venue for photo opportunities for you and your friends or family. Don't miss this exciting opening of our newest exhibit
