Tumbleweed Calf Fry countdown is on

Monique Headley

Like the Seinfeld-inspired Festivus holiday, so is Festicles upon us.

The 18th annual Calf Fry is billed as the world’s premier fried calf gonad event. It is scheduled to take place Wednesday through Saturday at Tumbleweed Dancehall and Concert Arena at Lakeview and Country Club Road. More than 20,000 people are expected to attend.

More than arguably good eats, the entertainment of Calf Fry is like a pickup truck loaded with buddies, beer and fireworks. Its line up of performing artists will make a cowboy buck up, a cowgirl want to dance and is guaranteed to blow up into a kick gluteus maximus good time.

The mix of country and Red Dirt artists will make choosing anything but to attend the entire event like a hoof to the head.

Among others, headliners include Jagermeister Country Music Tour artists Randy Houser who is also the co-writer of Trace Adkins' career-defining smash, “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk,” top-selling indie artist Pat Green and Rick Malone. Malone is heating up Country Music Television with his new single and video, “Honky Tonk Road Trip.”

Nashville Star TV show contestant Miranda Lambert who is the daughter of country guitarist Rick Lambert, will do her crazy ex-girlfriend best to entertain.

Stillwater breakout artists Cross Canadian Ragweed will deliver homegrown entertainment along with the Austin and Amarillo, Texas-based Band of Heathens and Aaron Watson.

Additional performers will include neo-traditionalist country artist Jason Bolan and Mercury Nashville recording artist Randy Rogers.

The vision of the Hessers, R.A. Lotspeich and John and Linda Klinger, Tumbleweed opened its doors in 1981. It is where Garth Brooks worked as a bouncer and performed.

In 1987, Tumbleweed was purchased by Hank Moore and Sherry Perrin and has become a popular venue for country and other recording artists performing in Stillwater including George Jones, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Eve Six, Third Eye Blind, Hank Williams Jr., Kathy Mattea and Lorrie Morgan.
