Susan Herndon

I missed you all this summer (okay, not all y'all, but most ;-). If you came out to the CD Release parties, I thank you again. If you didn't, well, where the hell were you? Now, on to bigger, better, cooler (I hope) things...

Red Dirt Harvest Festival. (Grape Ranch Winery. 6 miles south of Okemah off HW 27.)

Friday, 31 August, 8 PM; Saturday, 1 September, 2:30 PM.

The highlight of the year... Music for three nights and two days. And, for me, to think that half a million kids can get together for fun and music, and nothing but fun and music and God bless you for it... oh, sorry, I was channeling Max Yasger of Woodstock's Yasger's Farm Fame for a second. Anyway, Friday night we'll be playing songs by Oklahoma songwriters, Saturday, I'll have the band: Jeff Graham, David White and Michael Steed; and Sunday, we're drinking frozen Country Roses. Go to: http://www.graperanch.com/ or http://www.reddirtfestival.com/music.asp

Tuesday Night Science. (HW 75 in Dewey, Oklahoma.) Tuesday, 4 September, 9:30 PM.

This is the child (illegitimate, bastard, love?) of Tom Skinner and his Wednesday Night Science Project. Just up in Dewey...

Rick's Cafe Americain. (51st & Harvard, Tulsa.) Wednesdays, 4, 11, 18, 25 September, 6:30- 9:30. All, alas, is once again right with the world.

Veterans Park. (21st and Boulder, Tulsa.) Saturday, 8 September, noonish.

With Jeff Graham, David White, Michael Steed. This is a benefit for Oklahoma Alliance for Animals-- it's called Woofstock (Huh, get it?)-- so bring your animal and listen intentely to others' stories of how cute their pets are until it's your turn to do the same. My puppy, Princess Jackie Pi Freckle Butt Shadow, the Destroyer-- will be working the merch table.

Oklahoma State Fair. (Grape Ranch Tent, Fairgrounds, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.) Thursday, 20 September, 7:30-9:30 PM. With Jeff Graham, David White, Michael Steed.

Note that this is Oklahoma City's Fair not Tulsa's, but I'm sure you'll still feel exhilirated, nauseous and in need of a shower when you get home.

Doe's. (On Cherry Street, between Utica and Peoria, Tulsa.) Friday, 14 & 28 September, 7-10 PM. Out on the beautiful new patio, on 15th Street. If you're driving by, you'll feel the need to honk. Don't.

Grape Ranch Winery. (6 miles south of Okemah off HW 27.) Saturday, 15 September and Sunday, 30 September, 2-6 PM. This is a singer-songwriter series that the Whitemans have been hosting all year. We'll sing of broken hearts, discarded dreams, death, disease, infidelities, bankruptcies, and the relentlessness of time and decay. And then, we shall dance!

Lavender Hill Farm. (Follow HW 64 through Leonard, to Stone Bluff, Oklahoma.) Saturday, 22 September, 1-5 PM. Will be playing at a place I love. This festival, though, is special, as it commemorates the first annual harvest of grapes. I'm sure there will be samples. www.lavenderhillfarm

Tulsa Community College. (Metro Campus, downtown Tulsa.) Wednesday, 26 September, 11 AM- 2 PM. If you're having trouble studying-- and, really, who isn't these days-- come by the downtown campus for two hours of fun and music. And for all you disinterested college students who should be studying, this afternoon's for you.

RSU Radio/Local Flavors. (91.3 FM, Claremore, Oklahoma.) Monday, 24 September, 8 PMish. With my band, if they can remember the directions, and the one and only, Davit Souders and his Diabolical Productions. One of many programs Mr. Souders-- and I say Mr. Souders to ingratiate myself-- broadcasts to promote the regional music scene. He's a gem; so's the show.
