In a little over a year as a band, this Tulsa-based pop juggernaut has earned many national songwriting awards (including a Listener's Choice award from Country Music Television). It's also shared the stage with artists ranging from Switchfoot, Daughtry and Graham Colton to Paramore, The All-American Rejects and The Roots.

Stars Go Dim's eclectic, radio-friendly style melds soul, pop and rock with thoughtful lyrics and clean, catchy melodies. And people love it.

The band — lead vocalist Chris Cleveland, guitarist Joey Avalos, bassist Michael Wittig and drummer Lester Estelle — formed in 2007 as a side project to the multi-platinum-selling Christian rock act Pillar.

Soon, the group's fling became a full-time love affair.

Song after song flowed from the group, and soon grew into "Love Gone Mad," a full-length album that effervesces with tales of "the good, the bad and the ugly" aspects of relationships, said Avalos in a recent Tulsa World interview.

It's set for independent release on Aug. 4.

Saturday night, the band will co-headline a bill filled with local talent at the TulsaCARES Fest. Proceeds will go to TulsaCARES programs for low-income people in Northeastern Oklahoma with HIV/AIDS. TulsaCARES is a United Way organization.

On Monday, the band

will play a free outdoor show at the BOK Center outdoor stage before the Jonas Brothers concert, as part of the Outdoor Concert Series sponsored by BOK and ONEOK.

"We're all about connecting with our fans, and Tulsa's just been incredible," said Avalos. The foursome also was invited to play before the Billy Joel/Elton John concert in March.

"This is great exposure for local music, and the response has been mind-blowing. It's really exciting."

In July, the band will perform at Dfest music festival. And, in August, look for a CD release party here in Tulsa, said Avalos.
