Norman’s Tina’s Guitars Closing After 23 Years
One of Campus Corner’s oldest businesses, and a common ground for local musicians, is closing its doors this weekend after 23 years of business. Tina’s Guitars, located at 762 Asp Ave on Campus Corner in Norman, was established by local music enthusiast and archeologist Chris Cojeen, and opened for business in the late 1980s.
“I started this place in 1987. It was mainly just out of a love I have had for guitars since I was a kid. Oil and gas work always paid the bills, but dealing to local musicians was my passion.” - Chris Cojeen
Cojeen mainly dealt in Epiphone guitars over the past two decades, and was for a time one of the top ten small dealers for the guitar company in the United States. Epiphone has since pulled out of small, privately owned dealers across the country. That, mixed with the success of his archeology firm, Cojeen Archeological Services, brought him to decide to close the shop.
Cojeen is sad he has to close his shop after more than two decades on Campus Corner, but he feels it is in the best interest of his career. And even though he is leaving campus he hopes to be able to reopen sometime in the near future.
“With the increase in oil and gas work we just don’t have time to run the store. The good news is that for the rest of the week everything is on sale below cost. Perhaps we’ll be able to open again if I am able to focus attention on the place. And hey, if there is anyone who wants to take the place over, give me a call.” - Chris Cojeen
Tina’s Guitars will be open from 2-8pm Thursday, June 18 through Saturday, June 20.
