Indie International: The New Standard in Song Contests

Indie International: The New Standard in Song Contests

Not all international songwriting contests are created equal – some try harder.

The Indie International Songwriting Contest is now accepting song entries for its first semiannual competition. It is the first of its kind to be entirely green-friendly, executed completely online. Entrants enter anonymously through the site via MP3’s. No mailed entries are accepted and scoring by judges is also paperless.

Most song contests don’t reveal to their entrants who judged their song. This is because many have “song screeners” who only pick a very small percentage of songs to be evaluated by their big name judges. Not so with Indie International. All contestants receive a profile on the site and a basic evaluation of their work by a respected professional. Songwriters will be able to log in to their account to see exactly who judged them and how their song was scored. Full critiques are available from their judge for a small fee.

Co-creator David Tieman explains another reason why Indie International breaks the mold. “We limit songs to 150 submissions per genre. Contestants will never feel like they are lost in a sea of thousands of entries.”

His wife and fellow indie artist Jennifer Spector further explains, “We are the small but mighty contest. We would rather give solid recognition to songwriters. It seems silly to judge all songs from vastly different genres styles for one overall big cash prize – only to be paid for by thousands of unsuspecting entrants that were rudely ‘screened out’.”

Indie International will be awarding over $16,000 value in cash, products and services, carefully selected to help indie artists move forward in their careers. All 5 first place genre winners receive over $1,500 value in prizes, as well as a front page feature on the Indie International website for the duration of the following contest. As a commitment to being green-friendly, all first place winners also receive a tree planted in their name with the World Wildlife Fund.

Indie International proudly announces their sponsors for this first contest, which include Songlink International, Disc Revolt, Crystal Clear Disc Promo & Apparel, Beat Wire, Sam Ash Music, Indie Band Manager, Music Submit, Access Bags & Cases, and 411 on Music DVD.
