From the forum:
Way back in late 2005 I had a serious problem… I couldn’t write a song to save my life. It wasn’t that I didn’t have the capability or the drive or even the necessary equipment. It was simply a mental block. An infuriating barrier that mocked me ever time I picked up the guitar, everytime pen met paper. I was, in a word, jaded. Jaded on punk rock. Jaded on the local scene and the bands that populated it. Jaded on the whole idea that I ever thought music was my dream. And I probably would have stayed that way if I hadn’t met one particular person.
It doesn’t happen often enough, meeting someone, who unbeknownst to them and completely separate from any special abilties they most likely don’t possess, makes such a dramatic impact . . . really without even trying. Many of you might know Ryan Healy. He plays in Radio Deception. He makes good jokes. He drinks whiskey and sweet tea (like a champ). What you might not know is that at one time he was my next door neighbor. And if it wasn’t for him I might not of started playing music again. Probably would have sold the guitars and amps for weed money more than likely.
What started as an excuse to fuck around on guitar, smoke and drink, turned into something special for me. A way to kill time became a hobby. A hobby became a passion. And a skinny twenty something became a guitar player in a band again. Ryan left Red City Radio because he didn’t want to tour or deal with all the bullshit that goes with working really hard for little to no reward. I don’t blame him. Those first tours were rough. No crowds. No money. Angry girlfriends and bosses. But if he hadn’t left I wouldn’t have met my songwriting partner Garrett. And I wouldn’t be writing this today. You see, we’ve have worked our collective asses off for three years thinking that since all of us loved playing in this band so much, we ought to make a real go at turning it into something more than a twice-a-month-at-The HILo thing.
If the names . . .

Austronautilus. . . mean anything to you then you probably know they are, or once were, signed to Eyeball Records out of New Jersey. Well today I can say Red City Radio is as well. I want to thank everryone who has supported us over the years, had kind words or sage advice and I especially want to thank Ryan Healy for inspiring me to write the first RCR song “Bike Thief” which people still request at shows. Thanks for reading.
cheers,
paul
