Weekly Music News
Sunday May 31, 2009
Back by (un)popular demand, I give you weekly music news. Oh, and I might play it a little fast and loose with my definition of "week", but we'll see. Here we go!
1.
Think you don't need to talk to your band mates about things like who owns the band's name and such? Ask Ozzy Osbourne what he thinks about that. He is now having to take part in a lawsuit to demand that ownership of the Black Sabbath name be shared equally among all the members. I reluctantly link to Perez Hilton so you can check out the story: click here.
2.
Help band promote their music by giving it away for free, plus score free stuff for adding your name and info to their database? Ah yes, that's how it's done. Nice job, Chester French - learn more.
3.
Warner recently sent a cease and desist letter to Pirate Bay, which they in turn posted on their site, complete with smarty pants comments. It's pretty hilarious, no matter where you stand on the whole torrent site issue. Check it.
4.
Have web videos made live albums a thing of the past? This is the question that MSNBC asks. Although I remain flabbergasted at the insistence in the music industry that every new trend must kill off an old one - two ways of experiencing something CAN exist, you know - it's kind of an interesting thing to ponder. See what they had to say.
5.
Last but not least, very funny article from The Onion - Radiohead Denies Influencing Local Band.
